It was vital to be aware of actions in the present. Because the present became the past, and the past grew. And got up, and followed you. I believe The Brutal Telling is where Louise Penny crossed the line from a good writer to a great one. Each book is a stand-alone gem but the complexity and the struggle between good and evil push the books into something far more than it seems.
To understand the present we should look to the past. And, hopefully, learn from it. Sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case now.
I very much agree. Genocide didn’t end, or begin, with Hitler. And it will continue as long as one person considers themselves better than others.
